France
France just seems to do camping really bloody well. From brilliant aires and motorhome stopovers to some of the best campsites we've stayed at, there's a huge amount of choice whether you're travelling in a motorhome, caravan, camping or wanting something a little more luxury in a lodge.
And the best part? Compared to some other parts of Europe, you can often get a pretty incredible campsite without completely bankrupting yourself.
We've only scratched the surface so far, but here are the campsites we've personally stayed at and would happily recommend as part of our search for Europe's best campsites.
Saint-Raphaël, French Riviera
This was one of those campsites that reminded us why France does camping so well. Douce Quiétude is a big, family-friendly campsite just outside Saint-Raphaël, with a more resort like feel than your typical ‘holiday park’.
The pool area was obviously a big hit with Lily, and there was plenty going on for families, but what we really loved was on pitch with our own ensuite! …and the location. It gave us a great base for exploring the French Riviera, with Saint-Raphaël and some beautiful beaches all within easy reach.
Best for: Families who want a little more from their camping holiday. Whether you're pitching up with your own private ensuite facilities or staying in one of the luxury lodges, it has that slightly more luxurious feel while still being a great base for exploring the surrounding area.
